Daniel Margulies
Daniel Margulies, a dear friend to so many in our BAADS community passed away Sunday morning. Daniel was an avid sailor and gave so much to our club including serving as a board member and webmaster. Daniel was a loving husband and a skilled sailor with a sharp inquisitive mind.
BAADS will miss you, Daniel
We pray there’s some kickass sailing where you’re going next!
May fair winds blow you home…
Daniel was an active member of BAADS and considered the organization one of the brightest spots in his and his partner of 30 years, Pam Prentice’s, lives. He was a mentor, friend, and inspiration to the many people that BAADS reaches. He was born in Evansville, Indiana, on March 29, 1952, to Isadore and Marjorie (nee Goodston) Margulies. On April 24, 2022, he passed away in San Jose, California, due to complications from a life-long battle with Crohn’s disease.
Daniel lived in many different cities and countries while growing up. He attended high school in Winston Salem, North Carolina, and Tucson, Arizona, where he graduated in 1970 from Amphitheater H.S. Both he and his two brothers, Roger and Lyle, achieved the rank of Eagle Scout. He attended the University of Arizona and graduated with a BS degree in mechanical engineering in 1974.
His exemplary mechanical skills led him to be part of a pit crew for sprint cars during his college years. After graduation, he was employed designing test procedures for submarines at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California. He also spent 11 years as the development director at the Youth Science Institute (YSI) in Los Gatos, CA. He was the CFO of Riveting River Entertainment at the time of his death.
Daniel was of short stature due to Crohn’s disease. He became involved with Little People of America (LPA) 50 years ago, including serving as national LPA president from 1986 to 1987, vice president from 2000 to 2001, and past editor of “LPA Today.”
Daniel is survived by his brothers Roger (and wife Ann) and Lyle (and wife Julie), nephews Josh Niehaus (and wife Karli) and Yaki Margulies, niece Dana Devaul (and husband Rich), great-nephew Jaylan Niehaus. Daniel’s sage advice, mentorship to many, and deep friendship will be sorely missed. He was always ready to help anyone.
