Treasure Island Circumnavigation
On February 20th, our small boat fleet joined a flotilla circumnavigating around Treasure Island. The BAADS small boat sailors of John Wallace, Jim Thweatt, Cristina Rubke, Chris Burrell and Kathi Pugh, were supported by Chris Naughton and Josh Maddox in Whaler I and Melissa Ryan and Jim Staley on Raven. Carl Pearl and Stan Freeman were there in spirit.
In celebration of the 1939 Golden Gate International Exhibition. PICYA (Pacific Inter-Club Yacht Association) Commodore, Patti Mangan, organized the unity cruise for sailors and power boaters of all sizes to celebrate the joy of boating. And what a joy it t’was with perfect currents pushing us out the Bay Bridge and a gentle flood pushing us back. The fleet started to leave about 11:30 AM and shortly thereafter the sun came out and its full glory. The winds were just right coming from the North so we beat back and forth on the western side of Treasure Island and then rode the waves wing and wing along the eastern coast.
At least seven different yacht clubs participated with 30+ boats showing off their burgees and full colors. We can’t wait for the next excursion! Thank you to everyone who participated to make this event a reality. So much fun!
